‘ARTFULTUNITIES’

/art’ful’toon’e’dees/

  • Showing great interest in and/or taking action upon a set of circumstances that broadens a creative talent

Simply put, Artfultunities are ways in which we can seek additional inspiration, education, and affirmation in our artistic arena. A self-taught education simply lacks the camaraderie of group interaction - where students learn as much from their peers as they do the teacher.

Ongoing communication is integral to growth and self-esteem. Because, let’s face it, self-doubt and imposter syndrome are real at all levels. We gain confidence to ‘just try it’ from our friends, family, and classmates. While teachers provide the lessons and techniques, others encourage out-of-the-box trial and error that fosters individual style. Without this growth, we can become stagnant and run the risk of drafting someone else rather than blazing our own trail.

This network of ‘others’ can become our essential community. They push us out of our comfort zone, encourage daily practice, and send a life preserver when we hit inevitable creative blocks.

Time spent within a community of peers provides Artfultunities:

  • Inspirational pages to visit

  • Subject-focused aids

  • Video tutorials

  • Tips and shortcuts

  • Constructive criticism

  • Comic relief

  • Links and lists of the newest and greatest supplies

Two years ago, I found a watercolor community that fostered my growth as an artist in immeasurable ways. Now I’m paying it forward, providing the same for others.

Welcome to the HTL Studio Space - a private Facebook group for active watercolor artists of all levels from around the world. We share our work-in-progress, ask questions, and stumble through tutorials together. We enjoy weekly challenges, product reviews, and inspirational books that assist in subject matter deep-dives. It’s a space where the students are also the teachers. While advancing our skill set and pushing personal boundaries, it’s our simple common interest in painting that unites us and fosters new friendships along the way.

Pull out your paints, dust off your sketchbook, and join the HTL Studio Space for Artfultunities that will gently and joyfully nudge your watercolor painting to a daily practice. In this virtual class, everyone sits in the front row.
